Sometimes it’s the small things that will make your day. Like when a pretty girl or charming boy smiles at you for no reason. (I usually check my zipper when that happens.) Or when a certain song plays on the radio. (Try NOT dancing to My Sharona.) It might be some random piece of good news. (Come on, winning lottery ticket!) It doesn’t take much to turn your whole world around. Still there are all kinds of things that we take for granted.
You flick a switch and the lights come on. You tap a few keys on your computer and you are talking to (or swearing at) someone on the other side of the planet. You carry the accumulated knowledge of the human species in a little box that fits in your pocket. If you don’t think this is the most amazing time to be alive, you weren’t born before iTunes. (And if you don’t know what scrambled porn is, ask your parents. It’ll be worth it just for the embarrassed looks on their faces.)
But probably the thing we take most for granted is each other. So if you’re with someone right now, whether it’s your spouse, your partner, your lover, or your pet, lean over and give them a big wet sloppy kiss. Tell them I said to do it.
And if you’re all by yourself, turn off the computer, go outside, and meet some new people. Because there’s nothing more important than finding someone to share your life with. You’re going to have to trust me on that one.
Also, don’t forget to floss.
“You carry the accumulated knowledge of the human species in a little box that fits in your pocket.” Brilliance!
We do take so much for granted. Well, I suppose I can’t speak for everyone but I sure do. Thanks for the reminder.
