To all the writers (and readers) out there,
If you’re a fan of science fiction or fantasy, you have already heard of the Sword & Laser book club, podcast, and [now cancelled] Geek & Sundry show. If not, stop reading this and go check them out now.
Okay, you’re back. Anyway, the good folks & Sword and Laser recently announced they were accepting open submissions for short stories to put together an anthology. If you’re a writer and you’re thinking of sending them a story – sorry, the deadline has already passed. However it’s not to late to go and check out the show and the forums over on Goodreads.
So why am I telling you this? Well, I got to thinking about how many people would apply for a slot in that book, but how few would be accepted. That would mean that there would be a lot of people out there with stories to tell and no way to tell them. I wondered if maybe some of those people would consider putting them up on a blog.
There was enough interest that I started a new thread in the Goodreads forum to discuss the possibility of a showcase and workshop blog for new and amateur writers of sci-fi and fantasy. If you’re a writer or just want to know more about writing, why not consider joining in on the discussion on the forum and you can be involved right from the early planning stages. It’s my hope that we will be able to feature and promote upcoming writers and help them improve their skills at the same time.
What I would need from you is just a bit of your time, either as a contributor or just as a reader. If you are at all interested, please join the forum, or if you don’t like Goodreads you can comment below. This is something I’ve thought about doing for a while, so I’d like to hear what you think.
Thanks in advance.
