Deadline Inspiration

(or I Never Meta Muse I Didn’t Like)

Nothing inspires you more than a deadline, but not a self-imposed, arbitrary, it-doesn’t-really-matter kind of deadline. It doesn’t really count unless there are some consequences. You don’t spend all night cramming if you can take the test next Tuesday. That progress report would be a blank page if your boss was not standing over your shoulder checking her watch.

When you self-publish or blog, no one cares if you miss a few days (or weeks). Sure, some of your followers may wonder whatever happened to you, but they are busy people with more to do than think about you.

So why bother at all? Why should you pour your heart, make a bloody fool of yourself, and waste your precious time? You do it because you love it, and loving something (or someone) is the best inspiration there is.

Also, if you can’t think of anything to write about, you can always write about how you can’t think of anything to write about.
