I’m Not Procrastinating, I’m Blogging (or Why Do I Do This To Myself?)

English: Monkeys Blogging Español: Simios blog...

So, it’s been a while. I’m not ignoring you fine people out there; I just ran out of things to say.
A lot of people blog about their daily lives, but mine has been pretty boring. I’ve gone into hibernation mode because there is almost no sunlight, a foot of fresh snow on the ground, and dammit, I’m just tired, okay?
I don’t have a job (that pays), so I don’t even have that to complain about. Honestly, I was counting on that whole Mayan Apocalypse. I’ve never been good about planning for the future, and I was looking for a good excuse to quit my last job. But now I’m running out of money, I don’t have a job or a working car, and it’s too cold to go outside. Thanks Mayans. And you too global warming.
I could spend my time reading blogs (they’re still free) and writing about them, but so many of them are about things I can’t have. There are games and toys I’m dying to try, but I can’t afford any of them right now. So many movies I haven’t seen and places I won’t get to travel, I feel like a diabetic in a candy store. And speaking of candy, there are so many good recipes for things to eat, but I can’t have any. (Could you all stop being awesome for a minute? You give a guy a complex.) Besides, if I blog about blogging, that’s like writing a screenplay about a guy trying to write a screenplay – self indulgent, narcissistic crap.
I made a promise to myself that I would keep doing this, however, so no matter how much I spin my wheels for the next few weeks, I’m going to try to get something up at least twice a week. I will continue to break all the good blogging rules because that’s how I roll, and I long ago stopped caring about stats. This blog will continue to be random in quality, quantity and content, but I hope you get something out of it or else I’m just talking to myself, aren’t I?
Hello?
Is this thing on?
Getting back to work writing seems to be the best therapy for the winter doldrums. If you don’t keep the brain working, suddenly Friends reruns start to sound like highbrow literature, and there’s no coming back from that. And with that horrible thought running around in your head, I’ll say goodbye for now.
Also, I was just kidding about the stats thing. I’m still obsessed (and so are you).

Life always sucks in winter, so don’t worry, it’s not you, it’s the lack of sun and warmth:) See, you can write about how you have nothing to write about. You did a pretty good job with this blog:) Cheers!

What is this?

Ray Bradbury once said, “If you can write one short story a week—doesn’t matter what the quality is to start, but at least you’re practicing. At the end of the year, you have 52 short stories, and I defy you to write 52 bad ones. Can’t be done.”
In that spirit, I'm publishing approximately one thousand words of my works-in-progress, three times per week. I invite you to read the results and see if he was right. You can access the archives of past stories from the menus at the top of the page.
I'll also be posting my musings and random thoughts as they strike me, so be prepared for miscellaneous shenanigans. If you like what you see here, please subscribe by RSS, WordPress, or email. Thanks for stopping by.
